A bit to short for my liking. i liked the attention to detail but thought some information about who was raising her the other nine months of the year would have been nice.
A good slow start to allow the reader to get to know the characters. Here is hoping for some more about these people and also more from this promising author. (7/10)

Short, but promising introduction --from what seems to be an equally promising writer-- "Jump Start" has the quality of telling a whole lot in a very short space, without coming acoss as cluttered or rushed.
On the contrary, the pace is right, the inner thoughts and turmoil of 'the girl' are well represented and the dialogue is good.
Nothing new under the sun here, but still, a feeling of expectation was created.
Nice.
